THE STORY
Over the course of one fateful dinner party, an anxious climate-doomer must impress a Billionaire to help her corporate-baddy boyfriend land a big promotion, but when her estranged best friend shows up unannounced, everything devolves into chaos.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
In 2020 when the world was falling apart in new and exciting ways, I had an experience that made me feel like everything on Earth that was broken was entirely my fault.
I was holding a piece of plastic. The kitchen trash open in front of me. The future of the flimsy salad bag in my hand flashed before my eyes—polluting the ocean, choking a dolphin, and warming the Earth to a point of human extinction. I was helpless. If only Bezos would save us. If only Zuckerberg had been hugged more as a child. I had no choice to put the plastic salad bag in the garbage that day and live with my guilt.
For years I was plagued with that kind of anxiety, exacerbated by social media and the nihilistic doomsday rhetoric that permeates young millennial social circles. I lived in a deep depression of hopelessness. And somehow, (probably through an earnest connection to my purpose in life, which is making movies) I found myself on the other side of those feelings and in a place of hope.
The Billionaire Who Came to Dinner is a scrappy micro-budget film made by people who want the world to be a better place, starting with one person’s journey out of depression at a time.
